Tampa, Florida -- A man has been charged with neglect of the elderly in his mother's death.
On July 23, Tampa Police officers went to a home on North 38th Street in response to a call about a deceased elderly woman. The woman was Louise Holmes and, according to reports, her home was in deplorable condition.
Reportedly, there was no electricity or water and the roof was falling in. There were roaches and rats inside the home and the floor was covered with mud. Her primary caregiver was her son, James Holmes, and after inspection of the home he was taken to the Tampa Police headquarters.
Holmes told detectives he visited his mother daily. He also told detectives she had been unable to walk since July 4 and admitted that she needed medical treatment.
Further charges are pending after autopsy results.
