(Tallahassee Democrat) -- Tallahassee Police Department officers hauled a naked man out of LakeElla Thursday afternoon as a crowd of people, including children,watched on.

According to the arrestreport, Derral J. McGinnis refused to exit the lake whenTPD officer instructed him to. He replied to officers that he was unableto exit because he was naked and that he had entered the lake fullyclothed to swim when his clothing had come off.

McGinnis, 63, was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and taken to the Leon County Jail.

JoeMezzina, owner of Joe's Bike Shop which is along the shore of LakeElla, said "what was bothering me is that I know that water is toxic."

Mezzinasaid he placed a call to TPD, but noticed that while he observed theman in the water, he had clothing on. "He was yelling that he lost hisshorts," Mezzina said. "And that's probably what happened."

Hewas seen hanging on onto a turtle platform in the middle of the lakeand was inaccessible from shore, but Tallahassee Fire Department firemenassisted, bringing a boat. The police report says that no turtles werepresent during the incident.

After being retrieved byemergency responders, McGinnis said he had entered the lake to swim andtake a bath and had walked most of the way to the platform. He said heknew he shouldn't have entered the lake, but was adamant about taking abath.

Mezzina said this is not the first time he has seenpeople swimming in the lake; while it doesn't happen often, he noticesit does occur more frequently during the hot days of summer.

Thearrest report says that McGinnis talked about other locations he couldhave gone for a bath, but "he did not want to go there."

Following his removal from the water, McGinnis acknowledged that his behavior was disorderly and that he should be arrested.

The police report says that McGinnis has no local address.
