Largo, Florida -- A man is recovering after about 10,000 pounds of quartz sheets fell on him Monday morning.
Pinellas Sheriff's deputies say the worker, 45-year-old Sergio Alvarez, was unloading several pallets of quartz delivered to Pelican International in Largo. As he released one of the pallets to unload it, the supports broke and the sheets of quartz, which were up on their sides, fell on him and pinned him between the sheets and another pallet.
The process to extracate him took about 30-45 minutes. He was then flown to Bayfront Medical Center where he is being treated with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities say it appears the incident was an accident.
