Kettering, OH (Sports Network) - Arizona combined to shoot 2-under-par 144 on Tuesday and grabbed a 2-stroke lead after the opening round of the USGA Women's State Team Championship.
In this event, three players represent each state, but the lowest two scores comprise the state's total for the round.
Arizona's Hannah O'Sullivan propelled her state to the first-round lead, matching the low round of the day with a 2-under 71 at NCR Country Club's South Course. Stephanie Kim helped the cause with an even-par 73, while Kylee Duede's 9-over 82 wasn't counted.
Florida grabbed second place at even-par 146, as both Meghan Stasi and Tara Joy-Connelly carded 73s.
New Mexico resides in third place at 1-over 147, while Indiana sits in fourth at 2-over.
Kentucky's Lucy Nunn and Maryland's Bryana Nguyen matched O'Sullivan for the low individual round at 2-under 71.
