TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Gov. Rick Scott announced a health care firm's plan to hire more than 1,000 people over the next five years in Tampa.
Scott made the announcement Wednesday at the Tampa offices of HealthPlan Services, a company that helps insurance carriers recruit and retain customers and offers an online insurance marketplace, where consumers can browse from different insurers.
Company CEO Jeffrey Bak says the expansion would "probably not" be occurring without the new federal health care law.
Scott strongly opposes the Affordable Care Act or "Obamacare."
HealthPlan Services now employs 2,400 people in 22 states and Bak said he seriously considered expanding in Ohio or Nevada, but that Florida's low taxes and other factors prevailed.
