Kettering, OH (Sports Network) - New Jersey's two players combined for an even-par 146 on Wednesday to help it grab a share of the lead after the second round of the USGA Women's State Team Championship.
In this event, three players represent each state, but the lowest two scores comprise the state's total for the round.
Alice Chen fired a 6-under 67 at NCR Country Club's South Course to lead the way for New Jersey. Tara Fleming posted a 6-over 79 for the other score. Cindy Ha's 8-over 81 did not count in round two.
New Jersey ended two rounds at 5-over-par 297, where it joined Florida in the lead. Four-time U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion Meghan Stasi managed a 2- over 75 for the Floridians, while Ericka Schneider carded a 76 for the second counting score.
Arizona led after round one, but struggled to a 12-over 158 on Friday and stands at 10-over 302 and alone in third place.
Georgia, the 2011 champions, share sixth place at 15-over 307.
With inclement weather in the forecast for Thursday, there was a cut with 27 of the 52 teams moving on to Thursday's final round.
