Lakeland, Florida -- The Lakeland Police Department is investigation a incident involving homemade acid bombs.

Around 11:00 p.m on September 24, police responded to a call of a resident chasing a prowler in the 1200 block of Easton Drive. Reportedly, the resident heard a loud knocking at his door and when he opened the door, he heard a loud pop. He also saw a subject running from his porch.

During this same time, another resident reported seeing a subject drop a backpack in the area on South Oakland Avenue and meet up with another person matching the same description as the one who fled on foot from Easton Drive. Both subjects were observed getting into a newer white SUV parked on South Oakland Avenue and leaving the area.

The backpack contained several homemade acid bombs utilizing plastic bottles. Officers also found remnants and scattered debris from an apparent acid bomb under a mailbox at 2708 S. Oakland Avenue. All together, 9 acid bombs were found.

No property appeared to have been damaged by the explosion and there were no reported injuries. The police department would like to emphasize that this is not being treated as a mere "prank," but rather as a serious crime. The suspects are described as:

  • Suspect 1: white male, late teens, blond hair, 5'6, white tee shirt, cargo shorts, black backpack
  • Suspect 2: white male, teenager, white shirt, light colored shorts
