Investigators tell 10 News the damage on the car is consistent with the crash that took Grimes' life. Detectives were originally looking for a white late-model Chrysler. The vehicle was actually black.
People are being questioned, but so far, no arrests have been made.
Brandon, Florida - The family of a Brandon woman who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver is making a public plea.
"If there's any way that you can turn yourself in. It's not going to do me any good 'cause I lost my wife, but it may help you so you don't have to live with this guilt your whole life," pleaded the victim's husband, Dennis Grimes.
Shelley Ann Grimes, 59, was hit and killed on Saturday night around 11 p.m. while crossing Providence Road and Providence Ridge Road Boulevard. She was walking the family dog when she was hit by a Chrysler 300 occupied by at least three people, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
In addition to her husband, Grimes leaves behind two adult children and a long list of grieving friends who trickled to her home on Sunday to pay their respects to the family.
"She's not going to see her grandchildren. She's not going to see her daughter get married. She's not going to see my grandchildren," said Kim Hall, a long-time family friend.
Investigators say the suspect's vehicle is missing its driver's side rear view mirror and will have damage to its roof and possibly its windshield.
Anyone with any information on the car or the suspects inside is asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at 813-247-8200.
