Moscow, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Russia's Evgeny Donskoy knocked off Marcos Baghdatis on Tuesday to highlight first-round action at the Kremlin Cup.
Donskoy posted a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over the former Australian Open runner-up from Cyprus to earn a second-round matchup with top-seeded Richard Gasquet of France.
Other winners Tuesday included Kazakhstan qualifiers Mikhail Kukushkin and Andrey Golubev, as well as Italy's Paolo Lorenzi.
Kukushkin needed a mere 67 minutes to dispose of Russian Alex Bogomolov, 6-4, 6-1, while Golubev took out Ukrainian qualifier Oleksandr Nedovyesov, 6-2, 7-5. Kukushkin will next play fourth-seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov and Golubev will meet sixth-seeded Horacio Zeballos of Argentina.
Lorenzi, meanwhile, rallied past fellow Italian Filippo Volandri. Lorenzi was ahead 3-6, 7-5, 4-1 when Volandri called it quits because of a right quad strain. He'll next face yet another countrymate in second-seeded Andreas Seppi in the second round. Seppi is the defending Moscow champ.
Israel's Dudi Sela wrapped up the schedule with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev.
The 2013 Moscow titlist will collect $134,800.
