(USA TODAY) -- Rep. C.W. Bill Young's widow has a message for former Floridagovernor Charlie Crist: Stay away from her husband's memorial service.
Thoughthere will be lots of dignitaries attending the Florida Republican'sfuneral Thursday, Crist - a Republican turned independent turnedDemocrat - is definitely not welcome, Beverly Young told the ex-governorin an e-mail.
"This e-mail is to officially advise you that yourpresence at my husband's memorial services will be unacceptable," Youngwrote in an e-mail, reported by the Tampa Bay Times."I have watched over the years, as Bill had, your transparent attemptsto manipulate the political arena. I don't want my husband's memorialservice to be another opportunity for that, and I will not tolerateanyone turning this into a platform for political gain."
No word on what Crist, who is considering a race for governor next year, will do.
Bill Young,the longest-serving House Republican and a champion of the Pentagon,died Friday. The House won't be in session Thursday, so lawmakers willbe able to attend the services at First Baptist Church in Indian Rocks,Florida.
The Tampa Bay Times said Beverly Young sent similare-mails to two of her husband's previous challengers, Democrats CharlieJustice and lawyer Jessica Ehrlich. Bill Young defeated Ehrlich, 58% to42%, last year for his 22nd term in Congress.
