Tampa, FL - Early this yearforecasters warned that there would be at least six Atlantic hurricanes this season, but so far we've onlyseen only two Hurricanes(Humberto and Ingrid) and ten Tropical Storms (Andrea, Barry, Chantal, Dorian, Erin, Fernand, Gabrielle, Jerry,Karen and Lorenzo). So what is throwing this season off?

Well it appears that the Saharan Deserts is a big player this year with it's dust layer that blows particles over the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

According to the Tampa Tribune, some scientists and meteorologists credit the dust particles and the drying effect they create with impeding the formation of tropical cyclones and creating one of the calmest Atlantic hurricane seasons in decades.
