Cam Newton has outdueled Mike Glennon to lead his Panthers past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-6 Sunday afternoon. The win pushes the Panthers' win streak to eight games and snaps the Bucs' 3-game win streak. Eight straight wins sets a new Carolina franchise mark for consecutive wins.

Carolina led 17-6 at halftime and started to pull away in the third quarter. Newton hit Tedd Ginn Jr. for a 36-yard touchdown to push the lead to 18 points. Ginn burned Darrelle Revis on a double move to get free down the sideline. It was Newton's second scoring pass of the game. He hit Brandon LaFell on the Panthers' second possession of the game to open the scoring.

Glennon has passed for 180 yards and made two costly mistakes. He fumbled in the second quarter deep in Panthers' territory to kill a Bucs scoring chance and fluttered a third quarter pass deep downfield that was eventually intercepted. That turnover led to the Newton to Ginn scoring strike.

Glennon starred at North Carolina State and is playing in front of friends from college. They saw Glennon fail to throw a touchdown pass for the first time since becoming the Bucs' starter. Coming into Sunday, he had thrown a touchdown pass in each of his first eight games. That mark is an NFL record for rookie quarterbacks.

Just before the end of the half, Newton launched himself over the goal line on 4th and goal to give the Panthers a 17-6 lead. He broke free for a 56 yard run on Carolina's second possession. That set up a 16 yard touchdown pass to Brandon LaFell two plays later for the first touchdown of the game.

Newton has now thrown and passed for a touchdown in the same game twenty times in his short career.

He did make two mistakes. He tried to fire across the middle of the field in the third quarter but hit Lavonte David right between the numbers. In the first quarter, Newton fired a pass to LaFell. The ball was tipped and Keith Tandy snatched it just before it hit the ground. It is Tandy's third interception this season and second in consecutive weeks. The Bucs have picked off eight passes in the past four games.

Tandy's interception led to a Rian Lindell field goal. Lindell connected on both of this field goal attempts in the first quarter. Lindell missed a 48-yard attempt in the third quarter that would have cut the lead to 24-9.

The Panthers beat the Bucs 31-13 five weeks ago. The Bucs drop to 3-9 this season after starting the year 0-8.
