(USA Today)-- Is there anything more entertaining than awkward celebrity moments? From Taylor to Al to Kim (with some obligatory Miley), we look back at a year of bumbling, bungling antics bestowed on us by today's biggest stars. Count down the (un)lucky 13 that made the cut:

13. The gray lady

Psst, Kate: Your gray hair is showing! Busy new momDuchess Kate of Cambridgegot caught with a few strands ofgray showing in her new center partduring an outdoor engagement in bright sun last month. According to the British media, Kate colors her hair through a process that uses fewer chemicals and takes hours, but new moms rarely have a lot of extra time - even royal duchesses. Still, after the flurry of reports around the world about the gray, it was gone by the time of her next engagement.

12. Swiftly awkward

It was a sing-along gone horribly ... uncomfortable.Taylor SwiftandPrince WilliamjoinedJon Bon Jovionstage toprovide backup vocalsfor an acoustic version ofLivin' on a Prayerduring a charity gala at Kensington Palace in late November. Swift's giddiness and her goofy dance moves paired with William's rigidness - despite giving it his best to be a good sport - made for a cringe-worthy performance. Awkward level? Think watching your co-workers botchDon't Stop Believin' at karaoke night - except your co-workers are a pop superstar and a prince. But who says awkward can't be fun? We demand an encore!

11. Celebrity slumber

Morgan Freemannaps on his own terms. At least that's what the 75-year-old actor did in May during an interview with Fox's Seattle-Tacoma station, Q13, while promoting his filmNow You See Me. Hesimply dozed off! Later, Freeman sent USA TODAY a statement: "I wasn't actually sleeping. I'm a beta tester for Google Eyelids. I was merely updating my Facebook page." Good try.

10. 'Blurred Lines'

It's hardnotto get summer anthemBlurred Linesstuck in your head. But try watching its music video - trust us, save it for after work, because it's a bit baffling and a whole lot of uncomfortable.Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I.raked in quite the controversy for the video, in which the fully clothed musicians lewdly ogle a group of near-nude models, giving new, creepy meaning to the lyrics, "I know you want it." But Thicke has at least one unflinching fan: His mother, Gloria Loring, defended it as "wild, goofy" and "slightly off-center."

9. Ad'dress'ing the faux pas

Few businesses are as delicate (or as fraught) as high fashion. So when Valentino sent out a press release early Oscar morning confirming

Les Miserables

star

Anne Hathaway

would be wearing its custom couture confection to the biggest event of the year, it was the ultimate awkward moment when she turned up on the red carpet in this (oddly nipple-enhancing) pale-pink Prada gown instead. The reason for the last-minute switch? Her planned dress was

too similar to co-star Amanda Seyfried's gown

. Thanks to the faux pas, Hathaway was forced to release a public apology for "anydisappointment caused" to the designer two days later

8. Sizing up the scandal

What wasEllemagazine thinking? Of six stars featured on six different covers for the November issue, only plus-sizedMelissa McCarthyappeared covered up in an oversized trenchcoat.McCarthy's thinner counterparts, including Shailene Woodley, Marion Cotillard and Reese Witherspoon, were dressed in figure-revealing garb. How awkward, then, when McCarthy revealed thatshe picked the coat herself. "I grabbed the coat. I covered up," she told E! News. Reps forEllereleased this statement: "On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover."

7. J. Nic hearts J. Law

Sure,Jennifer Lawrencetook home a shiny little man in the form of a best-actress Oscar, but it was another man who really stole the show that February night. While Lawrence was being interviewed on camera post-show by George Stephanopoulos, a perkyJack Nicholsoninterrupted tocongratulate Lawrence. Lingering a little too long after piling on the praise, Nicholson told Lawrence, "You remind me of an old girlfriend," then disappeared for a second, only to pop back in and exclaim, "I'll be waiting!" Presumably for a lesson in manners.

6. Al's presidential accident

Celebrity weathermen - they're just like us! TheTodayshow'sAl Rokerspilled two cringe-inducing secrets this year, and while we all love a bit of potty humor, the first was too up close and personal. In a January appearance onDatelineto promote his book, Roker shared that on a 2002 visit to the White House after his gastric bypass surgery, he felt like he had to "pass a little gas here. Only a little something extra came out," he said. "I pooped my pants." And in August, Rokeroverslept for the first time in 39 years, failing to show up forWake Up With Alon The Weather Channel. Oh, Al.

5. Frenemies

The world of entertainment coverage is entirely based on relationships - and some are more real than others. Such was the case when new momKim Kardashiandecided topublicly blasttalk-show hostKatie Couric. Like so many hoping to land the first post-baby interview with Kardashian, or just to be nice, Couric sent a baby gift to little North West in August. Sadly, she also simultaneously chose to trash the Kardashians in an interview withInTouch, wondering, "Why are they so famous?" So Kardashian took to her platform of choice, Instagram, and posted a photo of the present Couric sent ("Dear Kim and Kanye, Congratulations on the birth of your baby girl! ... And may I humbly suggest you continue the K tradition. ... Fondly, Katie Couric."), along with the following hashtags: "#IHateFakeMediaFriends #MayIHumblySuggestYouNotSendGiftsThenTalk(expletive)"

4. As long as Anne loves him

In the words of USA TODAY's Cindy Clark, this is truly something you must see tobeliebe. While visiting Amsterdam in April,Justin Biebervisited the Anne Frank House, where the Holocaust victim hid from the Nazis and penned her famous diary. Always the pinnacle of sensitivity, Bieber finished the day by writing in the guestbook: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully shewould have been a belieber." Um, really?

3. Just add butter

Going forth, 2013 will be known as the yearPaula Deenended her reign as the Queen of Butter. This summer, the celebrity chef admitted to using the n-word, inciting a massive endorsement fallout, which ranged from the Food Network to Target to J.C. Penney. Smack-dab in the middle of the scandal aretwo awkward home videos. After she abruptly canceled herTodayshow interview, a seemingly frazzled, red-faced Deen took to the Internet with a bizarre, choppily edited 46-second apology. Soon after it appeared online, it was replaced with a second, rambling video, which was viewed almost four million times on YouTube.

2. Black and blue over 'Orange'

Halloween is a perfect time to dress like your favorite TV character. However, there are no times when it's OK todress up in blackface. ActressJulianne Houghapparently missed the latter memo when she painted her skin and wore an orange jumpsuit as a nod to the character "Crazy Eyes" from Netflix's seriesOrange Is the New Black. The look caused such a social-media backlash that Hough publicly addressed her haters: "It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize," she tweeted.

And last, but not least ...

1. Twerkfest 2013

And for better or worse, that meansMiley Cyrus'MTV VMAsperformance is one we'll never forget. Can you believe her infamous twerk-a-thon happened more than three months ago?! She wagged her tongue, she backed it up on Robin Thicke, she rubbed a foam finger in places foam fingers are not meant to be rubbed. Love it, hate it - that fateful August night marked the pinnacle of thetour de Cyrus shockfest, one we doubt will end when 2013 does.
