Piscataway, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Sterling Gibbs poured in 27 points as the Seton Hall Pirates got past the Rutgers Scarlet Knights with a 77-71 victory in non-league play at the RAC.
Eugene Teague contributed 16 points and as many rebounds as well as five steals for Seton Hall (6-3). Brian Oliver and Brandon Mobley each added 11 points, though Mobley fouled out.
Myles Mack paced Rutgers (4-6) with 20 points. Jerome Seagears added 18 points before fouling out, J.J. Moore tacked on 13 and Kadeem Jack finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Seton Hall had a 37-33 lead at halftime. The Pirates connected on 46.2 percent of their field goal tries, including 5-of-12 from 3-point range, during the frame. Rutgers hit on just 37.9 percent from the field in the same time.
After the break the Pirates continued to shoot well, shooting an even 50 percent from the field. Rutgers could not keep up, making good on only 39.4 percent of its field goal attempts.
The Pirates overcame 20 turnovers in the win by controlling the boards, 38-31.
