Venice, Florida- Warm Mineral Springs in North Porttakes another step toreopening.
During it's monthly meeting in Venice, Sarasota County Commissioners voted 4-1to support theCity of North Port's plan to temporarily reopen the springs for swimming only. It's been closed since July 1.
County Commissioners did put one limitation; it can open for swimming only until September 1. Commissioners say this would allow both the city and the county to come up with a long term plan to keep Warm Mineral Springs open permanently.
North Port City Commissioners said last week the process to reopen will take three to four months while the City of North Port bids out for a management company.
The cost to open for swimming is estimated at about $1 million dollars.
The City of North Port and Sarasota County bought Warm Mineral Springs in 2010 for $5.5 million dollars.
