Sarasota, Florida -- A two alarm fire was put out by Longboat Key Fire Rescue at the Sea Gate Condos on Friday evening.
While enroute rescue units were informed that there was an explosion on the 13th floor with smoke coming into an apartment on the 12th floor.
The arrival of the first units reported no explosions however and upon arrival residents were already exiting the building. Personnel on the 12th floor reported smoke in the hallway but no fire. A water supply was established on Gulf of Mexico Drive and the fire system (standpipe) was supported.
After a thorough investigation by personnel, a fire was located in an apartment on the 12th floor. Forcible entry was made into six apartments to ensure there was no extension of smoke and fire.
The fire was contained to an air/heating system within an apartment on the 12th floor. All smoke was evacuated from the 12th floor hallway and the apartment. There was no extension found within the building.
Residents were "staged" in the community room located on the first floor until personnel declared the building safe for re-entry.
Personnel did a great job with communication, tactics, and overall operations.
