WASHINGTON (AP) - Jay Gruden says he doesn't care about the Washington Redskins' tumultuous past, and he has built a "genuine" trust with franchise player Robert Griffin III.

Gruden was introduced Thursday as coach of the Redskins. He signed a five-year deal Wednesday night as the successor to Mike Shanahan, who was fired last week after a 3-13 season.

Gruden says he intends to call the plays himself, and he has yet to decide whether to keep any of the assistants from Shanahan's staff.

Gruden praised Griffin's talent, but added: "He's got to understand that I expect a lot from the starting quarterback. I expect him to come in and work hard... I expect him to take the blame on some throws... I expect him to be a great leader.. I expect him to do extra things to be great... As long as he's working his butt off, I will provide him with everything he needs to be successful."

Former Buccaneer headcoach Raheem Morris, is still under contract with the Redskins. He's served as the team defensive backs coach the past 2 seasons.
