BOCA RATON, Florida (CBS 12) --A large dead sperm whale washed up on a beach near Spanish River Boulevard on Friday morning.
The 30-foot whale appeared to have been attacked by sharks floating off-shore before the tide washed it in.
Policehave closed a section of Spanish River Park. A crowd of people gatheredon the beach say they saw lots of sharks in the water before the whalecame ashore.
Spinner and reef sharks are often found in large numbers in South Florida this time of year as they migrate.
Wildlife biologists will attempt to determine the whale's cause of death.
There are no plans to move the carcass, and police hope the tide will take the remains back out to sea.
