Tampa, Florida -- It's the final push for volunteers as they fight to get medical marijuana on the 2014 ballot.Close to 700,000 signatures are needed to put the issue to a vote and each signature they get only gives volunteers like Melissa Karaban hope that the issue won't go up in smoke.

"I am just so passionate about it," says Karaban.

Although it can be hard to get people to stop, eventually people sign. Moriah Barnhart says she's seen, firsthand, what medical marijuana can do after her daughter Dahlia was diagnosed this past year with a brain tumor. Dahlia has undergone chemotherapy, numerous surgeries, and alternative medications.

"'You do what you can to save your child's life and that's why we found medical marijuana," says Barnhart.

Barnhart says for her daughter it's what worked, and that's why this Tampa family recently packed up and moved to Colorado.

"Plants have healing properties," says Barnhart. "It kills cancer cells. We need to move forward and we need to get home," says Barnhart.

For Karaban, that's why she says she'll work all day to get signatures to people like Dahlia back to the place they call home.

Volunteers will be out getting signatures until Wednesday and that's when they say they'll have to turn what they have in so the elections office can verify signatures and have a confirmed total by the Feb. 1deadline.
