St. Petersburg, Florida -- Edly Atherley, the man wanted for allegedly murdering his wife in their San Bernardino, Calif. apartment, has turned himself in, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Ashley's stepfather, Rick Robles, says the family can at least no longer live in fear knowing that the man they say killed their daughter is behind bars.
"It's phenomenal. We can at least close a chapter in this. We know we have a long road ahead. This is justice for Ashley," says Robles.
Atherley had a federal arrest warrant connected to the murder of his wife.
Ashley Atherley was reportedly found with her throat slashed inside her apartment last month. She relocated to California with her husband from Hillsborough County this past spring.
Lucia Robles, the mother of Ashley Atherley, sent a statement to 10 News on Saturday.
"We were concerned to learn that Edly was in Tampa and within such close physical proximity to many family members while he was running from law enforcement and crossing the country. We are relieved to know that he is now in custody and that he cannot harm anyone else.
"Our prayer is that the judicial process will unfold in a timely and just manner so that Ashley's death will be properly recorded as a domestic violence murder and our family can experience justice for the loss of Ashley's beautiful and productive life. Our lives have been forever altered and for the sake of her children, we hope to one day regain a sense of balance and peace once this process is over."
FBI agents booked Atherley into the Orient Road Jail, where he will remain until he can be extradited to California.
