Riverview, Florida -- Hillsborough County Fire Rescue battled two different house fires in Riverview on Monday morning.

Firefighters say an elderly woman has died in a fire at the home on the 7800 block of Alafia Drive. An elderly man found in a different part of the home was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition.

As of 9 a.m. the fire was under control.Fire investigators say it appears the fire was caused by the electrical cord to a heating pad.

Earlier in the morning, firefighters responded to another home on 10403 Sedgebrook Drive, where arriving units saw heavy smoke coming from the garage. All occupants were outside the home and unhurt.

Firefighters attacked the fire from inside the structure, keeping the fire isolated to the garage. The fire was brought under control and extinguished quickly.

Three dogs at the home were on the back porch and also uninjured. Investigators believe an electrical problem in the garage started the fire.
