Summerfield, Florida -- The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of 100 homing pigeons and theft of 1,000 others on a farm along S.E. 84th Terrace in Summerfield.
The owner of the farm told detectives that during the overnight hours on Saturday, Feb. 15, someone or a team of people "possibly drove into his neighbor's open field which leads to the pigeon coop". The owner also said it's unlikely the pigeons got out of the coop on their own because they would still be in the yard since homing birds don't usually go far from their home.
