Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Highway Patrol has reopened I-275 near Ashley Drive after an accident involving an overturned vehicle and downed light pole that caused backups in both directions.
FHP says around 1:06 p.m., a Nissan pickup truck was heading north on I-275 south of Ashley Drive in the inside lane as a BMW sedan was heading in same direction in the center lane.
When the driver of the truck, 29-year-old Mark Potter, tried to change lanes into the center lane, he lost control of the truck and started to rotate in front of the BMW causing the BMW to crash into the driver's side of the truck.
After impact, the BMW overturned as the truck crashed into the center median wall causing a light pole to collapse and fall onto a tractor trailer heading southbound on I-275 in the inside lane.
The crash closed multiple lanes of I-275 in both directions. All lanes were reopened around 2:15 p.m.
Potter was ticketed for failure to use due care. No one was seriously injured.
