(USA TODAY) Queen will tour North America this summer with Adam Lambert, the British group's first U.S. tour in eight years.

The 18-city tour with the formerAmerican Idolrunner-up as frontman will begin June 19 at Chicago's United Center, ending July 20 at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Washington, D.C. The tour will consist of a dozen U.S. shows, including two at Las Vegas' The Joint, and seven in Canada. Tickets will go on sale March 14.

After original frontman Freddie Mercury's death in 1991, Queen sometimes recorded and performed with Bad Company lead singer Paul Rodgers, including a U.S. tour in 2006. Lambert first performed with the band during the 2009American Idolfinale, singingWe Are the Champions.

Queen and Lambert later teamed up for the 2011 MTV European Music Awards and a series of concerts in Europe in 2012, including three sold-out shows at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Last September, Queen + Adam Lambert played the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nev.

"I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon," Lambert says in a press release. "The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal. I'm honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory; he's a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band."
