St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Pete Police are looking for a man who stole a 10-week-old chihuahua from a pet store by stuffing it in his backpack.

The suspect stole the puppy on February 26, from the Animal House Pet Center located on 34th Street North in St. Pete. He walked into the store around 2 p.m. and loitered around for about 15 minutes before he snatched the puppy from a holding area.

The puppy is a 10-week-old, 2 lbs, gray Chihuahua with tan paws.

A customer in the store witnessed the man stuff the puppy into his backpack as he left the store.

The puppy snatcher is described as:

  • A man in his early 20s
  • 6'1", slender build with big eyes
  • Wearing a red shirt, black pants, red shoes and carrying a black backpack
  • Believed to frequent the area of 34th Street North
