(News-Press.com) - It's official.
A new Guinness World Record was set for the "most people duck calling simultaneously" when 3,028 people participated in a mass duck calling for two minutes at Germain Arena in Estero. The record-breaking event occurred on Sunday, May 18 at Germain Arena during a benefit performance, "The Call: Faith, Family & Facial Hair," featuring the Robertson family from A&E's hit show Duck Dynasty. The Robertson family is known for ownership of Duck Commander, a Louisiana-based company that produces duck calls, and provided those used for the record-breaking event.
The event included musical acts by the top Christian group Switchfoot, the country band The Farm, and The Salvation Army's own contemporary artists transMission as well as a special message from the Robertson Family, including Willie, Korie, Jase, Missy, Reed, Cole, Mia and, of course, Uncle Si. Coincidentally, the official Guinness World Records adjudicator on hand to verify the count was named Phil Robertson, which is the name of the Robertson family patriarch also featured on the television show. The two are unrelated.
"It sounded like a swarm of cicadas as duck calls echoed the arena," said Phil Robertson, adjudicator for Guinness World Records. "After the two-minute clock ran out, the crowd erupted into cheers and attendees set a new category for Guinness for the largest duck call."
"The Call: Faith, Family & Facial Hair" was The Salvation Army of Southwest Florida's largest fundraiser and proceeds from the event will benefit local programs operated by The Salvation Army in line with the organization's mission to provide services to people experiencing hunger and homelessness, without discrimination, while continuously leading and assisting our clients as they strive towards the goals of attaining affordable housing, stable employment while simultaneously fostering a sense of greater self-determination. Ninety cents of every dollar raised is used to sustain the life-changing programs that bring hope to hurting souls.
"It was an unforgettable evening with one of most renowned families of our time. In addition to setting the Guinness World Record for the largest duck call, the event created awareness and provided significant support for the important programs, services and ministries of The Salvation Army," said Major Tom Louden, Area Commander, The Salvation Army of Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties. "We are grateful to the Robertson family and to our partners and supporters for helping us to bring this unique, dynamic event to Southwest Florida."
