Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Fire investigators have determined a small shed fire on S. Malcolm Ct. Wednesday morning was the result of arson.
According the the official report, an unknown suspect or suspects broke into the property through a chain link gate in the alleyway. The suspect(s) then poured an ignitable liquid on the exterior of the occupied shed and used as open flame to ignite it.
The fire caused total loss to the shed and its contents estimated at $5,500. It also caused heat damage to the exterior of three adjoining residences. A man inside was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Because the shed was occupied this is a case of first degree arson.
Investigators urge anyone with information to call the Fire Marshal's office at (813) 274-7000 or they can leave an anonymous tip at tampagov.net/arsontips. Rewards of up to $2,500 or more are available for information leading to the identification of persons involved in arson fires.
