Hillsborough County, Florida -- A Seffner man is under arrest after authorities say he robbed the motel he works at as a maintenance man.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Brian Harris entered the Motel 6 on Adamo Drive on May 16 dressed all in black and wearing a hood over his head. He allegedly approached the clerk from behind and demanded all the money from the register.

Deputies say a struggle then ensued between Harris and the clerk when the clerk tried to call 911. During that struggle, Harris allegedly pulled a knife and managed to cut the telephone cord. He then picked up a fire extinguisher and threatened the clerk while continuing to demand money from the register.

Harris took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the motel on foot.

The sheriff's office says detectives were able to identify physical evidence linking Harris to the crime scene. In addition, witnesses claimed they recognized Harris' voice because he works at the Motel 6 as the maintenance man.

Detectives found Harris back at work on May 23 and arrested him without incident. He is being held at the Orient Road Jail on $25,000 bond.
