Tampa, Florida -- Officers shot 29-year-old Jason Wescott while executing a warrant at a home on Knollwood Street in Tampa.
According to the Tampa Police Department, undercover officers were buying marijuana from Wescott over the last three months. During each transaction, police say he was armed with a handgun.
On Tuesday, officers obtained a warrant to search the home and arrest Wescott.
Because of the high risk of executing a search warrant at the home of an armed suspect, officers say they used SWAT to enter the house. They reportedly found a person in the front room who immediately surrendered and was taken into custody.
When officers opened the door of the back bedroom, Wescott raised his gun and threatened the officers. Fearing for their lives, the two officers fired at least two shots.
He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he later died.
The investigation is ongoing. It's not known at this time if the other person in the house will face charges.
