Hernando County, Florida -- Deputies are warning citizens about a scam involving jury duty summons and/or arrest warrants.

Deputies say they received complaints about a male caller contacting citizens in an attempt to scam money from them.

The man, who identified himself as Lieutenant John Martin from the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, allegedly said someone in the household was going to be held in contempt of court for not complying with a grand jury summons and that a bench warrant would be issued.

The caller then allegedly told people to pay him immediately in order to get the situation "all cleared up." The so-called fees were in excess of $1,300.

The suspect asked for both cash and a Green Dot (pre-load) debit card.
