Tampa, Florida -- A police officer's son was killed at the Park Terrace apartment complex in east Tampa.

Outside veteran Tampa Police Officer Betty Williams' home, patrol cars line the street as word spread that her 28-year-old son James was killed.

"That was a shock. Emotional for all of us. I think about my kids. It was hard to hear for sure. [I] hope it never happens again," says Marvin Ramsey, a neighbor of Betty Williams.

Ramsey says he's known James since he was a young boy.

Veteran Tampa Police Officer Betty William's son James was killed early Wednesday morning.

"It happened right above me," says Carl Johnson who was woken up around 5 this morning from loud noise coming from above. "I heard knocking and knocking."

He says it went from banging to a gun shot.

"There was a loud pop and I saw a lady running down," says Johnson.

Police say Williams was staying at the apartment complex with a woman and two young children. They believe the suspect knew Williams, but they are not releasing a motive for the shooting.

"This was a place he stayed but, yes, he was shot and killed in his apartment," says Andrea Davis with the Tampa Police Department.

But here, where officer Betty Williams, calls home, neighbors say it will be a while before they get over the shock of the murder.

"It's very hard," says Ramsey.

Gregory Charlemagne, 30, has turned himself in for the shooting of Williams. He's been charged with second degree murder.
