TAMPA -- A former boyfriend kidnapped and beat a pregnant woman last week and then led Hillsborough authorities on a short chase before being caught.
About 2:30 p.m. June 5, Curtis Eugene Anderson, 31, forced the woman who was six weeks pregnant into a blue Cadillac and then beat her as he drove around for about a half-hour, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Anderson struck the woman several times in the face and head.
He then too the woman to her apartment where Anderson continued to beat her and held her until 7:45 a.m. June 6, the sheriff's office said. He released her, and she was taken to Tampa General Hospital and warrants were obtained for Anderson's arrest.
Detectives later found Anderson, but he tried to flee in his vehicle through a yard and nearly struck a corporal with the sheriff's office. Anderson was located again, and when detectives arrived, he fled into the woods and then got into an occupied residence, the sheriff's office said. He was then arrested.
Anderson, of 5623 Del Prado Drive, Tampa, faces charges of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, false imprisonment, kidnapping, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing to elude, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, burglary of an occupied dwelling and not having a valid driver's license.
He is being held in the Hillsborough County Jail.
