Today is Melanoma Monday. It's a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about skin cancers and encourage early detection.
In honor of Melanoma Monday, Morton Plant Hospital's Cheek-Powell Heart and Vascular Pavilion is offering free cancer screenings from 8:00a.m. until 1:00p.m, but space is limited and you have to register to attend.
You can call (727) 953-6877 for more information or go to mpmhealth.com.
Melanoma is the most-life threatening form of skin cancer. The American Cancer Society estimates about 120,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in the U.S. every year and 9,000 people die from melanoma each year. Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer for men and sixth most common for women.
