St. Petersburg, Florida – As we prepare for the Fourth of July holiday, local blood officials would like you to add one more activity to your plans -- donating blood.
Blood supplies are a bit low heading into the holiday weekend, so now is a good time to give.
"The need for blood doesn't take a holiday," says Dan Eberts of OneBlood, the local agency supplying blood to hospitals in our area. "During the summer months we lose our high school donors and other donors are on vacation and we encourage people to come out and make sure blood is on the shelf."
Most everyone can give blood. You have to be 16 years and older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be healthy.
OneBlood has 16 donation centers in the Tampa Bay area and next week there are also many mobile events planned. To find out where you can give click here.
