St. Petersburg, Florida - Jazmine Burney is battered and bruised. "This right here, hurts really bad," the 13-year-old says while fingering a bruise near her right eye.

And after being attacked Tuesday on her way home from school, Burney is no doubt nursing some emotional scars as well. "When most of this stuff happens, young ladies, they don't make it out sometimes," she says in a quiet voice.

Jazmine, who likes reading and math, was done with her school day and walking home from her bus stop when she was attacked. She had seen two men hanging out at a vacant house at 610 31st Street South and ignored them when they yelled at her.

But then Jazmine says one of the men grabbed her from behind. She fell to the concrete and he began dragging her down a nearby alley.

"I thought I wasn't going to make it home," says Jazmine. "I thought he was going to take me into the abandoned house and try and kill me and rape me."

But Jazmine fought back -- yelling and kicking -- and all the fuss attracted the attention of an older white man who had just gotten off a city bus. The unidentified Good Samaritan ran to help.

"And he pushed him off of me and they went running in the alley and I just ran home," says Jazmine.

"He was very brave to do what he did," says Jazmine's grandmother Rosa Pringley about the Good Samaritan. "I feel like he was God sent, putting his heart and his spirit to go help her."

Jazmine describes her attacker as a light-skinned black man in his early 20's, about 5'8", with a muscular build. He has a full beard, pierced ears, and tattoos on the inside of both forearms.

Jazmine had seen her attacker and the other man in the neighborhood before, so detectives believe someone in the area knows who they are. Police would also like to talk with the Good Samaritan to see if he can give them additional information about the attack.

As for Jazmine and her family, they'd simply like to say, "Thank you very much, that's what I would say," says Jazmine. "I really do appreciate it."
