St. Petersburg, Florida -- Deputies arrested 23-year-old David Patrick Conway after he reportedly struck a 4-year-old boy so severely that it caused damage to his internal organs.
Reports say the boy's mother left him with Conway when she went to work. After her return home, the boy told her that he urinated blood, but had no evidence to show her.
After he went to the restroom again, he showed his mother that he still had blood in his urine, and she immediately brought him to the emergency room.
That is where doctors determined the boy had a laceration to his kidney, and that the "trauma" occurred while the child was in Conway's care.
The child told deputies Conway struck him, and they arrested him Thursday after pulling him over near St. Pete Beach.
Officials say they are holding him without bond at the Pinellas County Jail.
