TAMPA, Florida -- The eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 nearI-75have reopened after a shooting death closed the road for hours on Saturday, June 29.

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee said, 47 year old Fred William Turner, Jr. of Orlando,called 911 to report someone following him in the area of 50th and Columbus where he'd just left a store. He told dispatchers he was getting on the interstate heading toward Orlando.

While on the phone with police,Turner said the car following him pulled up beside him, and someone inside displayed what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon. Hereportedly told police he had done nothing to cause someone to follow him.

The dispatcher then heard multiple gunshots, andTurnerpulled over. He'dbeen shot. Hedied at the scene.

It's not known at this time whatsparked the shooting.

Sheriff Geesaid the suspect may be driving a newer model gray Taurus with tinted windows. It's not known at this time how many people were in the car with the alleged shooter.

Gee added while investigators assume this is a case ofroad rage, there is no way to tell right now.He does sayaroad rage incident happened right around the same area a few years ago during the Strawberry Festival. In that incident back in 2005,49-year-oldDavid Neel ofWesley Chapelwas shot and killed.Hecrashed off the I-75/I-4 interchange. His murder remains unsolved.
