Apollo Beach, Florida -- A specialized rescue team with Hillsborough Fire Rescue spent more than two hours removing a man who became stuck in a water and mud-filled hole at a construction site.

Authorities say the man was doing some work when the ground around him collapsed.

Sky 10 video showed rescuers free the man, who had mud and water up to his waist. A pump was used in an effort to prevent the hole from filling up with any more water and a harness was secured around his body to keep him from sinking further.

Shortly before 6 p.m. the man was successfully pulled from the hole and placed on a stretcher. He is now being taken to an area hospital.

Fire Rescue says the location is a new construction site for homes, located off Waterset Blvd near Big Bend Road in Apollo Beach.

Thursday's accident is only miles from a similar construction accident that happened back in January in Ruskin. In that incident, a construction worker was killed when the ground underneath him collapsed and buried him.
