A Saint Petersburg family is struggling to recover this morning after their 17-year-old son was killed crossing the street near the beach.

It happened early Saturday morning. Patrick McLean was walking across Gulf Boulevard near 49th Street in St. Pete Beach.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Deputies say Patrick McLean was crossing the road here at the 4900 block of Gulf Boulevard, but that he didn't use a cross walk.

A cross walk is just about a half mile north and about a half block south of where officials say he crossed the busy street.

It was while crossing the middle of the road Pinellas county Deputies say McLean was hit by one car, then run over by another.

He passed away at the scene early Saturday morning.

Deputies say alcohol may have been involved in the crash and both drivers showed signs impairment.

Patrick's father, Mike McLean says his son had a passion for life.

"He liked to smile all the time, never had an enemy in his life. We had 17 great years and were on the best of terms," Mike said.

Close friends 10 News spoke with remember Patrick as a young man with a bright future.

"When he left, he took a part of all of us with him. He was all in our hearts. And we all love you Pat," said Patrick's friend Talio Marisha.

Patrick's Dad, Mike says the family is now looking over funeral plans and hopes to have a celebration of life for their son next week.
