Oldsmar, Florida -- On Saturday, April 5, a young man will be remembered during a free skin cancer screening. His family has organized the annual Phil Phest, Benefit by the Bay.
Philip Bryant died in 2006 from complications of melanoma at only 23 years old. He was athletic, a football player and healthy until he was diagnosed.
His family tells us he had a mole that no one really noticed was becoming irregular and growing. When he finally got it checked out, it was too late.
His family set up a foundation in the Philip's name.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. the foundation and volunteers will hold free skin cancer screenings all day at R.E. Olds Park. That's on Shore Drive West in Oldsmar.
There will also be live music, kids activities and other events throughout the day.
