Tampa, Florida -- Tampa International Airport became the place for an emotional reunion Thursday evening as Army specialist Kristen Haley fell into the arms of her father.
She arrived in Tampa from Dallas just eight days after her fiancé, Sergeant First Class Danny Ferguson, was killed in the Ft. Hood shootings. Kristen arrived in Tampa as part of a proud troop of American soldiers.
"Right now, our unit is having a tough time because Danny was such a major part of our unit. He was always 'the guy,'" said Haley.
Kristen and Danny were expected to get married soon. Now she has the memories they shared and recalls everyone's respect for the hero who used his body to block the doors of a Ft. Hood conference room, keeping the gunman out.
"They just wanted everyone to know that he died saving lives, "said Haley.
When asked about her personal life Kristen remains emotional resilient, fighting back tears and standing tough, just like a true soldier. Just like Danny.
"I still don't believe this has happened. Each day is another step toward reality. It's really hard when I have to say my final goodbye," said Haley.
