Tampa, FL – A military veteran has been reunited with his dog after losing her in a car accident.
The accident happened Thursday shortly after Luke Macner adopted his new dog named Nina. Nina jumped out of Macner's car and ran off after it crashed on Causeway and Highway 41. While Macner spent the last few days at Tampa General Hospital recovering at the hospital, word started to spread of his desire to find Nina.
Three days later, she managed to make her way to Amy Abdnour's property on 50th Street S, not far from the accident. Amy fell in love right away, but knew that she had to do the right thing.
"You always want to find the owner, but at the same time, I'm kind of sad because she's just such a sweetheart," said Amy.
Luke who had been holding on to hope as the community searched for his dog was ecstatic to hear the news.
"It really means the world to me that there were so many people out there looking and caring," said Luke.
But beyond the broken bones and bruises, Luke expressed that loosing Nina hurt him the most.
"I'm a simple person. I lead a simple life, but to lose something as important as this dog really, really hurt me," said.
Even though Luke only had Nina in his possession for a few hours before she was lost, he says their bond was an instant connection and knowing that she is back, he can rest easy.
Right now, Nina will stay at the Tampa Humane Society until Luke makes a full recovery.
