Tampa, Florida -- We're already a few hours into the first-ever Give Day Tampa Bay. It's 24 straight hours of giving back to charities in the Bay Area.
This is the most cutting-edge fundraiser ever put on in the Bay Area. Think of it as a telethon, but the way your social media-loving niece would do it.
Two buddies, Tyler Cathey and Jess Johnson, dreamed up the idea over a couple of cans of Jai Alai craft beer when they learned a survey ranked the Tampa Bay area as 260th in the nation in how much its people give to charities.
They aimed to take the Bay Area into the top ten, and teamed up with Florida NEXT and the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay to make the one-day philanthropy push happen.
