The trooper helped deliver a baby girl near I-4 and Mango Road.
Tampa, Florida -- A Florida Highway Patrol trooper investigating a crash got sidetracked when he helped deliver a baby.
Around 7:30 a.m. Friday, the trooper responded to a crash at Interstate 4 and Mango Road.
Arturo Santiago saw the trooper and immediately ran toward him. He needed the trooper's help, because his wife was in labor.
The trooper ran to the woman, who moments later gave birth to a baby girl named Iris. The trooper provided basic care for the newborn and summoned Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel, who transported mother and child to Tampa General Hospital in good condition.
