A bat captured by animal control has tested positive for rabies.
Polk County, Florida -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office Animal Control has confirmed the second positive Rabies case for the year.
On May 7, a bat was found isolated inside a family residence on the Clinton Street in Bartow. The PCSO Animal Control Officers responded, impounded the bat, and sent its body to the State Laboratory for testing. The bat was confirmed positive for rabies.
Residents are reminded that bats and raccoons are among the mammals considered to be high risk species or "rabies vector species" (RVS). Please do not approach any animal which is acting in an unusual or suspicious manner.
