Pinellas Park, Florida -- Three children are dead after drowning in Bay Area pools this past weekend.

It's a scary statistic that is a reality in water-filled Florida.

In fact, Florida is number one in the nation for accidental drownings in children under five. Emergency crews are making sure they are always prepared we a call regarding drowning in.

"We had 3 drownings in Pinellas Park last year," says Rob Angell, with the Pinellas Park fire department.

Because the state of Florida sees dozens of drownings each year, firefighters are making sure they are ready when the call comes in.

"It's a high stress call," says Angell.

But even though these firefighters know they are prepared, they are startled at the number of people who are not.

"People are afraid," says Angell.

Firefighter Jay Alegre says bystander CPR increases the chance of the victim's survival by more than 50%.
