Tampa, Florida -- MOSI held a free Hurricane Expo on Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The 2014 Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo is an educational event for the entire family with children activities, exhibits and much more!

This year's theme was Are You Ready Tampa Bay. It focused on the importance of taking actions before a major disaster to ensure you can recover successfully and thrive after a storm.

While our local emergency responders are ready for any disaster we face, they still look to you, our residents, to help.

In addition to guest speakers, other planned activities included safety demonstrations, emergency vehicle displays, vendors of safety products, personal disaster preparedness and home retrofit products.

Also, Saturday begins a 15-day sales tax holiday for hurricane preparedness supplies including thing like flashlights, batteries, weather radios and other basic items that are essential to building a disaster kit. Some specific items include: portable self-powered radio, first-aid kit, ground anchor system, gas or diesel fuel tank, nonelectric food storage cooler and a portable generator.
