Tampa, Florida -- Two siblings were struck by a car Friday as they tried to run across Bearss Avenue while walking home from Buchanan Middle School.

About 30 students from Buchanan were walking on the sidewalk about 1:30 p.m. when several students decided to run across Bearss, near Monet Drive. They were not in a crosswalk, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

According to reports, 30 students from Buchanan Middle School were walking down the sidewalk when several students decided to run across the street, not in a crosswalk.

Brother and sister Nahomy and Abner Brizula were the last to try to cross the street and were hit by a Honda Civic driven by Juana Zurbana, the sheriff's office said.

15-year-old Nahomy and 12-year-old Abner are being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Zurbana, 19, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
