Ruskin, Florida -- A brush fire burned 50 acres in southern Hillsborough County this afternoon and forced the temporary closure of Interstate 75 in both directions. About 8:30 p.m., all of the lanes were reopened.

Crews from Hillsborough and Manatee counties and the Florida Division of Forestry are fighting the fire. Crews are using brush trucks, engines and tankers in the effort. It took crews about two hours to get the fire under control.

By late afternoon, firefighters were making sure the hotspots were out.

Hillsborough Fire Rescue said the blaze was in a county preserve and no homes were in danger.

The fire was near U.S. Highway 41 and Valroy Road, almost at the Manatee County line.
