Tampa, Florida -- Tampa Fire Rescue are working an accident that has closed down the eastbound I-4 exit ramp to 50th Street/Columbus Avenue.
A box truck had rear ended another box truck that was waiting at the light to cross 50th Street. The driver and sole occupant of the rear truck became trapped in his vehicle and required extrication. TFR heavy rescue unit used the jaws of life to remove the approximately 40-year-old man.
Paramedics stabilized him at the scene and called AeroMed to have him transported to TGH as a trauma alert. Two other patients at the scene were transported by ambulance to St.
Joe's. TPD is investigating the incident. The exit ramp will remain closed until TPD clears the scene.
